The author is a fifth-generation islander who is making her writing debut with this family history. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas. She is retired from a career with the federal courts. She belongs to numerous historical organizations such as the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Order of the First Families of Mississippi.
